Whenever you are connected to awareness, the past dissolves like a dream. We forget this simple truth because we have been so deeply identified with our stories, our emotions, our roles.
Yes, events occurred. They seemed real. But where are they now? That heated argument, that moment of joy or pain — where is it right now? It is gone.
What remains is presence. The same witnessing awareness that was there then is still here now. Everything else is transient. Events are clouds: they appear, shift shape, and vanish. But the sky stays vast and untouched. Your awareness is that sky. When the sun's rays fall or fade, it seems significant — but the sun has not moved. It is still shining, unchanged, ever-present.
You are not the story. You are not the event. You are that which perceives.
Why we accumulate
Accumulation happens only when you forget: this is not me.
You collect because you are unaware of the true you — the witnessing presence. You are not your emotions. Not your roles. Not even your thoughts. You are the permanent; everything else is the temporary. Whatever is changing, shifting, or fading cannot be the truth. What remains is awareness.
The moment you say "this is mine," you are stuck again. You take a fleeting moment and grant it permanence in your inner world. Had you been in the witnessing state, and in the company of wisdom, you would have seen the moment for what it was — passing — and tasted freedom in that recognition.
You get entangled because you unconsciously hold on, and you don't even realise you are doing it. You drag a moment that no longer exists into one that is brand new, and you contaminate it. This moment has never existed before. Why spoil it with stale echoes from a vanished past? You cannot breathe yesterday's air. Yet the mind keeps trying.
The boat and the ocean
Visualise an infinite ocean. At its centre, a small boat sails — a speck against a vast blue canvas. That boat is you.
The ocean has waves. Winds rise. Clouds gather. But the danger only begins when water enters the boat. That is when it sinks.
The outer world will always bring waves: people's words, situations, roles, drama. These are inevitable. Imbalance begins the moment you let them enter your inner world. What was meant to pass through becomes something you hold, and your inner world distorts.
Letting a comment, a behaviour, or a fleeting event disturb your stillness — that is letting water in. The more you hold, the heavier the boat.
Don't go to bed with water in the boat. Clear it before you sleep. That is how you rise from being a passenger to being the captain.
Steering, not escaping
Protect your inner world from the outside. Events, people, and roles come and go; the presence within you stays untouched. But take outer events too seriously and the clouds gather, the mind darkens, and soon you are inside a storm of your own making.
